Actlabs Asia LLC is part of the Actlabs Group of Companies based in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada and is a registered company in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The laboratory commenced operations in June 2006 and achieved ISO 17025 accreditation in March 2008. The lab operates under Executive Director, Douglas Read (DRead@actlabs.com), who brings 30 years of experience in laboratory management and operations.
Actlabs Asia LLC participates in Proficiency Testing Programs with both CANMET in Canada and Geostats in Australia. An in-house Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) provides for better tracking of samples and data handling.
Samples are received for analyses from most
aimags
(provinces) of Mongolia as well as from neighbouring Russia and China. Our national and international clients include operating mines, mineral exploration companies, mining and environmental consultants and various governments. The lab operates 24 hours a day with 3 shifts, providing high quality data with fast turnaround.
Samples preparation equipment includes Terminator jaw crushers, LM2 pulverizers, an LM5 pulverizer, Leachwell cyanide leaching, Bulk Leach Extractable Gold (BLEG) bottle rolls and column tests.
Lab instrumentation includes 3 state-of-the-art Fast Sequential Varian Atomic Absorption Spectrometers (AAS), 3 fire assay furnaces, 2 cupellation furnaces, a NITON XRF for uranium and thorium analyses, modern balances connected directly to the LIMS, a CAHN microbalance for weighing gold beads, colorimeters, pH meters, and fume hoods.
In 2008, the laboratory expanded its capabilities with the addition of a coal laboratory including sample preparation, an ELTRA CHS Analyzer for carbon, hydrogen and sulphur determinations, an ELTRA Thermo-Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA) for proximate analysis, calorimeters and furnaces for FSI determination.
